Desirée Monsuraté is a portrait artist and art teacher based in Vancouver, BC. She first picked up a pencil when she was just two years old, and as soon as it made contact with paper, she knew that art would become one of her biggest passions.

In Elementary school she spent her free time creating drawings of furry creatures that she would gift to her friends. It was during this time, that she was selected by her grade 5 art teacher, to be given the special opportunity to paint alongside renowned wildlife artist Robert Batemen.

In her teens. she studied with artist, Sumaira Issacs, who first introduced her to the world of oils. Once she picked up the brush, she just couldn't seem to put it back down.

Desirée eventually pursued a career as an actor, writer and producer, graduating from Vancouver Film School with.a Diploma in Acting for Film and Television,  and moving on to produce a number of films including Berlin and Spirit Award Festival nominee, Driveways, and Sundance Film Festival Finalist, Ms. Purple.

Film is a magnificent medium, however, Desirée missed her brushes and paints and the beauty, excitement, and promise a great big blank canvas brings with it...it wasn't long before she found herself back in front of the easel again.

Desirée currently paints out of her home studio in North Vancouver. For more information on workshops offered, please visit the Workshops page.

Desiree's work focuses mainly on portraits and pet portraits and her inspiration comes from painting those who are closest to her and who hold a special place in her heart. She would love nothing more than to paint you, your loved one or your little furry friend.
